Prepare a sublimation design with a transparent background

* Free to use — the editor runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded unless you start a server step: the AI tools, or upscaling a photograph (logos and flat artwork are enlarged on your device). A free account (Google, Apple or an emailed code — no card) is needed to download the finished file, and comes with credits for the server-side tools.

Sublimation ink has no white, so whatever is behind your design is whatever the blank already is. That only works if the background is genuinely gone — and a white, cream or pale grey background will print, leaving a faint panel around the artwork on anything that is not pure white.

Clear a background

Why the pale background still shows

A design saved on white looks perfectly clean against a white mug or shirt and then shows an obvious rectangle on ash, natural or beige. The fix is not to lighten the background: it is to remove it, so the blank shows through. Background removal here cuts the subject to real alpha in your browser and exports a PNG that carries the transparency with it.

Keep the resolution you started with

300 dpi at final size is the working rule, but the number that matters is the pixels you actually have. A 1000px graphic blown up to fill an 11in mug wrap is soft no matter what dpi the file claims. Start from the largest original you can get, and export without a resize step in between.

Where automatic removal earns its keep — and where it does not

Clean product shots, lettering, logos and illustrations cut out cleanly and instantly. Wispy hair against a cluttered background, and anything semi-transparent like glass or a veil, are the honest hard cases — the edge will need a pass with the brush. That touch-up is free and local too, so the only cost is a minute of your attention.

Frequently asked

Will it work on a design with text?

Yes, and if the text is part of a flat image you can also lift it onto its own editable type layer before exporting, which makes a size or wording change trivial later.

What format should I export?

PNG. It is the format that carries transparency reliably through sublimation software.

Is anything uploaded?

Not on the free tier. Background removal and export run on your device; server features are opt-in, labelled with a credit cost, and deleted within 24 hours.
